Sugar packets

Mensagempor BrunosapiJens »

Hello,

it would be nice if sugar packets could be added to Colnect.

tuixons gave me this useful information regarding online catalogues:

http://catalogue.barok.org/index.php (Czech Republic)

[LINK REMOVED] (spain)

http://www.ruichavenas.com/colPAcucar.htm (Portugal)

[404 LINK REMOVED] (Holland)

[404 LINK REMOVED] (France)

the catalog of spain, there are only whole series.

the catalog of the Czech Republic is divided with envelopes nominative (bars, hotels, restaurants, etc. ..) and whole series

Who else of you is collecting sugar packets?

Do you agree, that the navigation should be

country, then name of issuer, then series name?

What data fields are important?

- print run

- weight of sugar packet

- size of sugar packet

What else?

Or do all sugar packets have similar weight and size like phonecards?

Best Regards

Jens

What data fields are important?

- print run..........................................is not important

- weight of sugar packet.........................varies between 3 grams and 10 grams.

- size of sugar packet............................is not important, there are many formats

between formats:

on a spoon.

heart-shaped

round.

cup-shaped

lump

.... etc.

What else?.......................................is classified as:

series and nominations.

and in turn the series into sections, (animals, horoscope, sports, etc ...)

Or do all sugar packets have similar weight and size like phonecards?................NO

tuixons, would you like to kick-start and head this new category? We can start with your own website and then get more collectors to join in on the work. Podemos comunicarnos en espanol tb si prefieres.

We should first create a proper NIF for our new category. Please see our explanation about More Collectibles? and also the catalog contribution guidelines. I've attached here a sample NIF to be used for sugar packs. Please see that it looks like you could use it to add all relevant information you would like to have about sugar packs.

What is the ideal way to navigate?

It's important that we implement the category in the most convenient way from the beginning as making changes later is much harder.

Thanks

As it is possible to convince Colnect to add the collection sugar packets?

exist the collection of corks , and of packets tea, and the sugar packets nothing, how come?

the collectors of packets of sugar are over 200 in Italy. I organize a meeting of sugar packets and I have over 130 enrolled collectors coming from 12 European nations and Usa. I have an association of collectors, has a site web, http://www.sweetsugarworld.com/ I have 20 catalogs. I collect packets of sugar, of the whole world, I have over 300.000 of it. mine thematic preferred they are the packets of sugar of Mc donalds and airlines.

My cataloguing is separated for nations, therefore for city, everything in alphabetical order.

There are collectors and sheets of various formats done on purpose for the packets. I wait answered by Colnect!

sarata - we can easily add the category to Colnect but we need the help of a devoted collector as all content on Colnect is added by volunteers. Please read more carefully the discussion above and see if you can help us. I believe we could get it started within a week if there will be a collector who could help out and take over the category.

tuixons - thanks, I'll await your reply

Looks good. Please mind picture filenames should include only English letters and numbers (no spaces). You can also include URLs there. Pictures can be sent to me via email or (if it's a lot) using SendThisFile or YouSendIt services. Later, when the category is live on Colnect, you will upload everything directly there.

Let's resolve the navigation issue before we continue:

How will collectors navigate the new category? On our phone cards section navigation may start with country, then company, then series and then a list. On our stamps section we usually start with country, then series and then a list. These options for navigation can be extended. Please clearly state your vision of how navigation would be best for collectors.

Once you are comfortable with the data fields you have selected you are ready to create a new NIF for the new category. Take one of the existing NIFs (of a category with similar navigation and fields) and change the names of the columns to what you think is best. Enter sample information of a few items and send the new NIF for inspection.

I await your ideas here and would appreciate it if the discussion would include more sugar pack collectors. Are you familiar with more sugar pack collectors on Colnect?

Hi to everybody,

Before starting and as tcawe refers, it's very important to define the fields that would be needed on the database. I think the ones on the NIF example are not sufficient to describe a sugar packet, remember that this is very important when doing a search by field(s).

I'll try to give more details on this matter soon, ok?

Thanks.

Hi again,

Here are some more fields (besides the ones that are in the NIF file, that I think should be available in the sugar packets catalogue. The names in English may not be accurate, but can be adapted, of course:

Coffee Brand - This is one of the two major themes that are used in Portugal. If exists, it supersedes the other one.

Packaging Company - This is the other major theme. Every packet that has no coffee brand associated, are set to this category.

Printing Company - In Portugal, most packets has a sign (corresponding to a company) or small name that indicates this company and sometimes is the only thing that distinguishes two "identical" ones.

Axis of Rotation - This defines what kind of rotation(s) is needed when a packet is turned to his back side in order to have this side in the right position. This may also be the only distinguished method between two packets.

Date of emission - The month and year when the packet was made available to public (or to collectors, in case of private packets).

Nº of Packets - In case of series, it is important to know immediately how many packets they have.

Type of "border" - Some collectors consider the type of border that results from the packaging, that may be different, depending on the machinery used.

And that is all for now.

Hello.

I reattach the NIF with some changes:

Cataloge code is very important to differentiate from the start the series (complete sets) of envelopes only (nominative)

SP-S1-0001 to be

SP...country (spain)

S1...number of complet set

0001...number of sachet

SP-N1-0001

SP...country (spain)

N1...number of nominative

0001...number of sachet

other change

Weight(gr) Format

in Spain as in the rest of the world sugar sachets are not distinguished only by its weight but also by the way

It would be interesting to give a code to each format

for example:

sachet .... S

lump ...... L

Sticks ..... T

say your email to send pictures

thanks

Hello Brunet,

If you allow me, I would like to made the following suggestions to your proposal, which I think is an excellent start.

Regarding the series numbering... I believe none will ever reach 1000 packets, so we can save one digit and have the code like CC-S1-000 (CC is the country code).

Regarding the nominative numbering... I think we should consider two alternatives:

A - Having a code to some wide known themes, like Hotels, Airlines, Zodiac, etc. In this case, the code could be something like CC-HO1-0000 (CC=Country, HO=Hotel)

B - If no code letters for the themes, there is no need to have the second number, so it could be like CC-N1.

Regarding the type of packet, I suggest to use the name "Cube" instead of "Lump" because I think the word is more similar in several languages. The code letter would then be "C". The letter "T" for the sticks would then stands for "Tube". However, we could use "S" for the sticks, and "P" to the normal Packet. There is also another type that we call the Tetrahedron, that could be identified with letter "T". Resuming:

P - Packet (normal)

S - Stick

C - Cube

T - Tetrahedron

Best regards

António
