Discussing Themes

HozzászólásSzerző: dpcossio »

Admin note: This is the forum thread to discuss themes. You can also follow previous themes discussion in this old post: Discussing Themes 2015/2016, Discussing Themes 2017 and Discussing Themes 2018

I suggest the following theme tags for multi-country issues:

ASEAN

Euromed

Upaep

These associations of countries have yearly issues in the style of CEPT/Europe or British Commonwealth.

I also suggest to rename CEPT/Europe into EUROPA, as it is named in latin and not in English.

David.

I support the adding of these and there are a few more I would add :

SEPAC (small European postal admins)

Norden (Scandinavian postal admin issues)

RCC (ex-Soviet block countries)

and UPAEP should be in full capitals.

On a related note, it would be helpful to split the current theme of International Years into their respective year units, considering the number of issues that participate each year. So for example :

International Cooperation Year (1965)

International Human Rights Year (1968)

International Women's Year (1975)

International Year of the Child (1979)

International Year of the Disabled (1981)

World Communication Year (1983)

International Youth Year (1985)

others could be added as well but these seem to be the biggest ones in terms of numbers of countries involved.

Perhaps also we might consider having separate themes for big anniversary series that many countries issued stamps for. Examples

Red Cross Centenary (1963)

International Telecommunications Union Centenary (1965)

Universal Postal Union Centenary (1974)

Can "Surcharges, Overprints" be added to "Themes". It could/would be a useful means of selection.

Hello,

we need 2 new themes for postcards

- POSTCROSSING - it's quickly growing phenomenon, with tens or even hundreds cards at the moment, but their number increases daily. Theme can be valid also for Stamps, Philatelic Products etc.

- NIGHT VIEWS - similar to "sunset/sunrise", valid for many categories with pictorial items

Themes at all are extremaly important for Postcards category, because very often it's only one way to find corresponding card.

That is urgently needed.

It shouldn't be a problem to create a new topic. If necessary limited to just a few collection areas.

EUROPA CEPT and Norden are available as themes in the Colnect stamp catalogue.

Is it possible to add as themes the other common theme issues of the world such as America UPAEP, Sepac and Mercosur?

Thank you.

I also support this, as EUROPA is the name used on the logo and officially since PostEurop took over the coordination of EUROPA stamps from C.E.P.T. in 1993. Also "CEPT/Europe" is confusing as "Europe" can refer to hang-on issues that do not have the EUROPA logo and are not under the annual EUROPA themes.

Theme: Unicorn

Wiki Link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unicorn

Items that could apply for theme:

16 postcards https://colnect.com/en/postcards/countr ... me/unicorn

1 bookmark https://colnect.com/en/bookmarks/list/c ... hing_house

2 cigarette packs https://colnect.com/en/cigarette_packs/ ... Cigarettes

5 comics https://colnect.com/en/comics/countries ... me/unicorn

2 drink labels https://colnect.com/en/drink_labels/cou ... me/unicorn

44 gift cards https://colnect.com/en/gift_cards/count ... me/unicorn

10 Kids meal toys https://colnect.com/en/kids_meal_toys/g ... me/unicorn

5 Paper clips https://colnect.com/en/paper_clips/coun ... me/unicorn

2 Paper napkins https://colnect.com/en/paper_napkins/us ... e/3-Buffet

18 Trading card game cards https://colnect.com/en/trading_card_gam ... me/unicorn

31 Video games https://colnect.com/en/video_games/coun ... me/unicorn

The search also lists 11,283 Holy cards https://colnect.com/en/holy_cards/count ... me/unicorn (that's *all* holy cards!), but while the unicorn is sometimes used in Western Christian hagiography as a symbol for Mary, mother of Jesus, a quick look didn't show any unicorns or any holy cards with unicorn in the name. It seems there is a bug in the search for holy cards.

There recently was a unicorn hype (at least in Germany, which is documented in the German Wikipedia article https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Einhorn#Gegenwart , but the English article oddly ends with the renaissance), so there are more than 100 unicorn postcards (I don't collect them, so only the few I used for Postcrossing are added to the Colnect catalog) in Germany alone. Theming these, especially the humorous ones like https://colnect.com/en/postcards/postca ... l_Republic , with "horse" feels very inappropriate. Hence I would like to request the addition of the unicorn theme.

Best regards,

Martin Stricker

Dear,

I don't know if it is a bug or something else ... but i have some questions about the themes.

- in Dutch you have 2 x 'Advocaten'. In Englisch: 'Lawyers' or 'Advocates'. Most stamps of 'Mahatma Gandhi' have both themes ... What is the use, why 2 different themes? If both are necessary, can the dutch translation be adapted?

- i see a theme 'P.U.A.E.P.'. That is a nonsense word / abbreviation. In fact, it refers to the name of an university of a country (a school name, like we have hundreds in Belgium -> every school has its own name) and that name is 'UPAEP'. The letters are in that order, without dots. Like 'UNO' and 'WWF' are the names of an organisation ... 'U.N.O.' and 'W.W.F.' are wrong (it is not written that way). Whoever notes this, with points, on an exam in school, has lost his points  .

Anyway, why aren't the Belgian universitys added as theme? We have KULAK (Kortrijk), KUL / CUL (Leuven), RUG (Gent), ULiège (Liège), VUB / ULB (Brussel / Bruxelles), RUCA / UFSIA (Antwerpen) and some others. I would like to see the stamps (p.e.) of with those have there own theme also. Or why shouldn't that be possible  ? A normal person will understand what i mean, i hope ...

- I would like to see the theme 'Indians' added. I know there can be an absurd discussion about the word. But with the new category 'Cigar Bands' ... Cigar Bands depicting an Indian are a popular theme of Cigar Band Collectors. No more than that.

Thank you.

Raoul

Themes are discussed here: https://colnect.com/de/forum/viewtopic!f=90&t=109782

It is not a bug and you do not need support.

I think the theme should be called "Native Americans" instead of "Indians". Same meaning, no confusion with persons from India.
