3. Series
3.0. Types
The field (Type' doesn't exist yet in the category Cigar Bands. The guidelines will ensure dat later, if the field would be added, we can easyly retrieve the different types.
As long as this field does not appear, if the guidelines are followed, we can easyly distinguish the differend types.
There are 4 different types of cigar bands.
The real series are those that are about a certain theme. They (mostly) are numbered.
The factory bands, which usually remain virtually unchanged over several years, usually with a logo or brand name in the 'mirror'. By the 'mirror' we mean the middle part of a cigar band (usually higher than the rest of the band).
The commercial bands, which are printed on behalf of a TRADER. it was never the intention to actually put them on the cigar. directly from the printing works to sales. This kind of bands can be a series.
The publicity bands, which have a special promotional function (for a company, product or event). Usualy one or a few different.
With the responible persons concerning the category Cigar Bands it will be discussed whether we can add a field for this ('Type').
3.1. Factory bands
For all Factory bands we use 1 series name 'Factory Bands'. Everything else is unnecessary ballast and we want to avoid double use. After all, brand, year and theme are always available as an additional filter.
At this moment this type has series names with the brand name in it ... We'll see to change that, but once again, it is totally unnecessary. And it will become even more redundant if the filters are made available as a dropdown list (such as 'year') soon.
3.2. Series
With the real series, we obviously use an appropriate name that covers the entire load, and makes it possible to separate the series from the rest by selecting on that name. A series name 'Animals' is therefore not really suitable. When selecting the 'Animals' series, there is a good chance that as a user you will get bands of different series on your screen. And that is not so convenient.
Some brands have also a serie number (Animals I, Animals II, Animals III, ...). Try to use that specification in the Serie Name on Colnect!
Tip: before contributing a serie search first on Colnect if that serie is already used for that brand.
3.3. Commercial Bands
We propose to put in the field 'Series' the term 'Commercial Bands' followed by the name of the series similar to the description of '3.2. Series'.
3.4. Publicity Bands
I propose also here only the use of 1 serie name: 'Publicity Bands'. All the rest (country, year, brand, theme) is ballast ... my idea. And you can include the specification (company, product or event) in the name.
If the extra field 'Type' is added, this guidelines will be reviewed.
I can only add 3 picture in 1 post. For the commercial example(s) see next post.
Note: i noticed cigar bands that has nothing to do with sigars. They could never been used to put arround a cigar! Imho these are the cinderellas of this category 
If an extra field 'Type' is added, we can consider adding a 5th type (type 'Cinderella), after discussion of course.
It is not about the pictures that are, or were, present in, or on, the cigar boxes. But about certain extra-large-sized bands, with the appearance of a cigar band, but impossible they have been used as a cigar band. Very nice copies, but no real cigar bands. These exemplares are mostly in 'brand new' condition.
