What are the Ratings?

The ratings system is an important security measure in the Colnect community. There are differences between our Swap ratings and ratings used on our marketplace: Seller ratings and Buyer ratings. The following explanation is about our Swap ratings, whereas Seller ratings and Buyer ratings are explained as part of the Transaction process.

It is important to use the ratings correctly. Please read the following information about how to rate. This way we can make the best out of the swapping experience for the whole community, keep swapping safe and enjoyable.

Swap ratings

Swap ratings form a trust circle which, along with proper use of our Swapping Tips, helps Colnect prevent fraud and helps collectors find suitable matches for a swap.

You may only give your swap partner a single rating even if you did several swaps with the same partner. That single rating may be updated with additional information over time.

How should I give a swap rating?

First, be sure you have reached a final agreement with your swap partner.

What should a final agreement include?

  • Who sends first. Usually the collector with less ratings should send first.
  • Whether you both agree to use registered mail. If the agreement does not clearly state otherwise, it is assumed that you both agreed to send by registered mail. Read more on our Swapping Tips.
  • The full and exact list of items to be exchanged and their condition.

Then, do provide a NEUTRAL rating once you have sent a package to another collector to indicate that a swap is in progress. We recommend refraining from sending a package first or at the same time if your swap partner already has many swaps in progress. This will help in preventing mass-cheats.

Change the rating to POSITIVE once you have received what you agreed upon.

If you did not receive what you agreed upon or are dissatisfied with the swap in some way, you can follow one of these options:

  • Contact your swap partner and explain what you're not satisfied with and try to find a solution together. This is almost always the best approach for all sides involved.
  • Keep the NEUTRAL rating and add a comment about the details which you were not satisfied with.
  • Post the details on the Collector Warnings and Ratings Forum and we will try to help.
  • Changing to NEGATIVE should be done ONLY if all other means of communication have failed. Use the rating comment to include as many details as possible about the exchange.

Important

  • It is STRICTLY FORBIDDEN to rate a collector you have not exchanged with.
  • If a member you have not swapped with asks for a positive rating, please Report Collector.
  • If a member asks for a positive rating of more than one account (duplicate accounts), please Report Collector to alert us about that account.
  • If you would like to report suspicious behavior of a member you have not swapped with, please use Report Collector to alert us about that member.
  • Collectors who have negative ratings may have their Colnect account deactivated. Re-activation of accounts is possible under condition that the collector resolves the Negative ratings and amends their behavior.
  • Please notice that the rating also includes a text note. Please use the rating note to provide detailed information of what happened and why you have chosen this rating.

New members of Colnect cannot rate others. The reason is that there have been cases in which collector accounts were created solely to rate members. If you see "You still cannot rate other collectors", please continue using Colnect and in some time you'll be able to rate other collectors. You will definitely need other members of Colnect to give you positive ratings before you can rate others. If you're a new member, your best bet is to swap with members who have many positive ratings. We know this explanation is somewhat general. It is phrased this way on purpose. Revealing exactly how one can receive the option to rate will make it easier for cheaters and spammers to create reliable fake accounts with fake ratings on Colnect.

Ratings given by deactivated members are hidden. Deactivation means the member is not a part of Colnect anymore. Hiding their given ratings ensures that members suspected of fraud cannot add to trustability of other members.

Rating a member (when already allowed) is available by clicking "Rate collector" when viewing "Collector Ratings" (to see them click "Swap ratings" on a member's profile).
