Ukrposhta Postal Stationery

Ukrposhta publishes an update to its catalog of postage stamps and postal stationery annually. The most recent update is available directly from Ukrposhta's Philately page. Earlier copies may be found online by searching "Марка України каталог".

Whereas the Ukrposhta catalog maintains simple, sequential catalogue codes for its postage stamps and stamp blocks, catalog codes for postal stationary are more complex. Postal stationary is organized by type and subtype for both formats, envelopes and postal cards. Separate methods of catalog coding are maintained for each format/type/subtype and sometimes by size and purpose as well. Inconsistencies in Ukrposhta's own catalog codes complicates use of these codes in Colnect. It becomes necessary to record the Type, Year, List, and List Number of the postal stationery item being entered into Colnect.

ENVELOPES

Artistic envelopes with original stamp designs (Художні конверти з оригінальними марками) For this class of postal stationery, Ukrposhta catalog codes are designated by the Ukrainian letters "КОМ" or KOM in Latin script followed by a sequential number, running from year to year. The letter К in "КОМ" represents the word конверт or envelope.
● When completing Colnect NIF for artistic envelopes with original stamp designs, the catalogue code should always begin with KOM followed by the item number given by the Ukrposhta catalog - each element separated by a period or full-stop. Example: KOM.104

For all other envelopes, there will be separate lists organized by the characteristics of the envelope, often specific to type, size, and purpose of envelope listed. These envelopes may be artistic, illustrated, labeled, or plain envelopes. Each list is sequentially numbered, repeating numbers from list to list. While these lists were originally sequentially numbered from year to year, Ukrposhta has not been consistent. In 1999/2000, Ukrposhta abandoned the practice, numbering sequentially only within the year, starting over the next. In 2021, it abandoned this practice as well, relying on the print order number. This inconsistency complicates recording the Ukrposhta catalog code when completing the Colnect NIF.
To complicate cataloging further, Ukrposhta most frequently lists these envelopes as having definitive stamp designs - Конверти зі стандартними марками (Ukrainian letters "КСМ" or KSM in Latin script) but, infrequently, original stamp designs.
● When completing Colnect NIF for these other envelopes, the catalogue code should always begin with the code (KSM) followed by the year of issue, then the UKR list ID from the table below, and finally by the item number from the Ukrposhta catalog. Example: KSM.2001.1.14. In the 2000 catalog and in catalogs printed after 2020(?) lists do not have item numbers. Instead the NIF should use the Зам. print order number. The Зам. takes the form [1-digit number]-[4-digit number]; for example, 3-3030.

POSTAL CARDS

Artistic postal cards with original stamp designs (Художні картки з оригінальними марками) For this class of postal stationery, Ukrposhta catalog codes are designated by the Ukrainian letters "ЛОМ" or LOM in Latin script followed by a sequential number, running from year to year. The letter Л in "ЛОМ" represents the word листівка or postcard.
● When completing Colnect NIF for artistic envelopes with original stamp designs, the catalogue code should always begin with LOM followed by the item number given by the Ukrposhta catalog - each element separated by a period or full-stop. Example: LOM.23
