A drink can (also called beverage can) is a container intended to hold a fixed portion of a beverage. First drink cans appeared in 1935.
Browsing the Catalog
The Colnect Drink Can catalog can be filtered from the Catalog drop-down menu by the following properties:
- Countries: The country where the beverage is made and canned. The country where a drink can is made itself often differs from the country of the beverage’s origin and isn’t directly mentioned on Colnect. This info can be found out from the can manufacturer specified on Colnect.
- Companies: The company that made the beverage.
- Brands: A brand of the drink can, which is actually a brand of a drink.
- Beverages:The kind of drink a drink can is filled with.
- Can Types: Opening mechanism at the top of a can. Currently the following options are available:
- Cone top
- Crown cap top
- Flat top
- Pull top
- Push button top
- Tab top
- Can Manufacturers: The company that manufactured the drink can. Drink cans usually bear can manufacturer signs that allow identifying the company that manufactured the can. It’s a different company than the one producing beverages a can is filled with and which may be located in a different country.
- Compositions: The material the drink can is made of. Options are:
- Volumes: The quantity of the drink.
- Volume Units: The measurement unit of the drink.
- Years: The first year of drink can issue, if known.
- Themes: The motif themes on the drink can. Multiple themes can be selected for one can. Only the themes from the Colnect Global Cross-Category Themes List can be used.
- Recently updated: Drink cans where at least one piece of information was changed in the last 30 calendar days. The last change applied is used to determine the change age of the drink can. It can be further filtered by the last 1, 3, 7, 14 and 30 calendar days.
- Newly added: Drink cans added to the Colnect drink can catalog within the last 30 calendar days. This can be further filtered by the last 1, 3, 7, 14, and 30 calendar days.
- Import Log: A list of all New Item Forms (NIFs) that have been imported since the creation of the Colnect drink cans category. It shows the date, the person who created the NIF, the coordinator who imported it, the number of drink cans imported, and the country of the drink cans. Please note that it is not possible to find the drink cans that were in the NIF, this information is not stored in the database.
The catalog also contains other properties to further describe drink cans:
- Name (60 characters): The name of the drink can.
- Series: The series, if any, the drink can belongs to.
- Variant: If a drink can is marked as a variant, you can get a list of all variants of this drink can by clicking on Click to see variants.
- Catalog Code: The Colnect Code consists of the country and beverage abbreviations, hyphens and a consecutive 5-digit number. Example: UA-BE-00011 (UA: ISO 3166-1 Alpha-2 for Ukraine, -: hyphen, BE: Beer, 000011: consecutive number). Colnect codes are added automatically.
- Location: The town or city of origin of the drink can. It must be in the country of the drink can.
- Volume: The amount of drink, usually printed on the can, if not "Various" is used.
- Width (diameter): The horizontal width of the drink can measured in millimeter.
- Height: The vertical height of the drink can measured in millimeter.
- Description: A detailed description of the drink can. This may include information on how to distinguish variants.
- Front Picture, Back Picture, Third Picture and Fourth Picture: The front and back pictures of the drink can must be added, additional pictures are optional. Please follow the Picture Guidelines.
Can Manufacturers
Drink cans usually bear can manufacturer signs that allow identifying the company that manufactured the can and the country of a can’s origin (which often differs from the country of a beverage’s origin). A can manufacturer sign is typically located on the can’s back or side.
