NEW: Template answers to comments

Postby Skyforger »

Dear editors,

We've introduced templates for answering collector comments. You can now choose relevant templates from a list to answer a comment about some common thing (like reporting a duplicate, trying to submit a new item to the catalog, etc.), but you still can manually edit the response and write your own one. You can find more info about current templates on this page.

Feel free to share your opinion about this feature as well as suggest more templates for common things reported in comments that you had to manually respond repeatedly.

It appears that if an editor doesn't choose a preset template or type a freehand response, the contributor receives no feedback for their comment. I suggest the general Accept/Reject responses be used if nothing's chosen or typed.

Attached is a snippet of Edit Log which shows the problem.

EDIT - just sent myself a "no comment" feedback email to confirm there's a problem. That thick black line is where the feedback would appear.

I have a question about those feedbacks: in what language does contributer recieve feedback? English, the one used by editor or the one used by contributer?

Does that make sense without general message? In most cases, there is no need to write any special comment, so If I will have to choose some answer every time, it will take me much more time :(

Sure, I wrote the same thing right after this change release, it should be implemented.

Thanks for reporting. The issue will be checked.

In English as long as templates aren't translated and if it's chosen in the editor's profile. If a different language is set in an editor's profile and templates are translated to this language, it is used in the comment text, which doesn't seem to make much sense. We'll check how this can be improved or changed.

I assume those feedbacks are numbered, or at least each has specific value. If thats the case, then system just needs to check, it that feedback is translated into recipient language and sent it, if not, then send English version. Regardless od what language editor uses.

Hello everyone,

I think this new tool has great potential for providing collectors with precise information about when a comment has been rejected, allowing them to understand how to proceed correctly.

However, when simply accepting a comment, it's become frustrating to have to move the mouse to the OK button every time to confirm it a second time, especially when processing hundreds of comments that are just images to add.

I think there should be two options:

- Comment OK: as it was before, very quick and with a standard phrase

- Comment to reject: as it is now, with the option to clearly explain the reason for the rejection.

I'm appealing for a simple correction.

All the various options should be in the "Reject Comment" box, even the ones that mention DISCOGS or ask for a link to the variant, etc. Rejecting a comment isn't offensive, but it does mean "I can't do what you're asking," and with the templates, we provide an explanation to the collector. That way, the next comment will include the correct information.

Instead, "Accept Comment" should be the same as "Accept Image." One click and you're done. With this new method, a lot of time is wasted.
