- Description:
- On May 24, 2012, Neiva, the capital of the department of Huila in Colombia, served 400 years of its third foundation.
The first foundation of Neiva was in 1539 by the Captain Juan de Cabrera, in the site that today is known by the name of the Tapias. The second Foundation was made in 1550 Juan de Alonso y Arias, who moved to the site that today occupies Villavieja and the third and definitive foundation of Neiva, in the site that it occupies today, made Diego de Ospina and Medinilla, on May 24, 1612 , as the capital of the province of Páez, which in 1610 had separated from the governorate of Popayán. It was given the name of "Our Lady of the clean conception of the valley of Neiva".
Neiva is the main city of the Colombian Southwest, since in addition to being the port of connection for the capital cities of the Departments of Caquetá (Florence), Putumayo (Snota), Cauca (Popayán) and Nariño (Pasto), is the axis of the economy of the Departments of Huila, Caquetá and Putumayo.
Neiva has been the birthplace of politicians like Misael Pastrana Borrero, president of Colombia; Rafael Azuero Manchola, presidential appointee; Rodrigo Lara Bonilla, Minister of Justice within the Government of Belisario Betancur. Likewise, it has been the cradle of several writers standing out among them: José Eustasio Rivera, author of the novel "The Maelstrom" considered a classic of Spanish-American literature, as well as composers, as Jorge Villamil, author of more than 200 compositions, like "Guaduales" et "Espumas". Neiva is the annual seat of the national reign of the Bambuco, a folklore festival. - Achetez:
