Juan de Dios Carrasquilla (1833-1908), was a Colombian physician who dedicate his efforts first to the study of Quina of wihch Colombia was the world´s main producer, then began to employ quinine at high doses to fight malaria. Also important were his studies about leprosy. Later, as a farmer he realized the overused situation of national agriculture and began a modernization campaign importing fertilizers and machinery. In 1869, he wrote the "report on the situation of agriculture in the country, " and collaborated with the main newspapers of the capital raising awareness of the problem. On December 15, 1871, he was part of the founders of the "Society Of Colombian farmers" .
