Re: Magazines category

I think the language could be important too ...

And, if there could be a 'link' field, to be able to view the whole magazine (and read) ... I don't collect them but i'm sure then i would visit the category a lot

Of course, the language field is already added to the NIF. As for reading magazines the category isn't meant for this.

I have various magazines, not really collected but accumulated and hence scattered around in my stuff. Topics include computer, stamps, coins, other collectibles, television/televison series (do weekly television program magazines count for this category?), cinema/movies, politics, and literature (mainly science fiction). I'm happy to provide their information and cover scans as I come across them.

  • Dimensions (width / height) in cm (23/30) without decimal places

I would prefer dimensions in centimeter with at least one decimal place - only with the millimeters you can determine if a magazine fits into a specific protective hull size or not.

Best regards,

Martin Stricker

I collect Starbucks mugs, christmas market mugs, gift cards, beer coasters, bottle caps, tickets, souvenir tokens, postcards, advertisement pens, bookmarks, match boxes, dessert lids + more

I agree. One decimal lace is at least better.

An alternative is the bibliographic standard used in library ISBD classification

Statement of the dimensions

If the dimensions of the resource are given, they are given in terms of centimetres rounded up to the next whole centimetre

This means that a magazine 20.2 cm wide will be recorded as 21 cm.

I could imagine becoming a coordinator.

I collect a lot of things and also have other hobbies.

Of course I still have a job.

It could therefore make sense for a second person to help.

First of all, of course, it would have to be determined what basic informations are included in the database.

My suggestions for this would be: (example for the following magazine)

  • Title of the magazine group (Motor Klassik) as it is written on the front page sort by
  • Name of the magazine, headline (Coupé oder Cabrio?) as it is written on the front page
  • Publisher (Motor Presse Stuttgart GmbH&Co. KG) as it is writen in the imprint sort by
  • Land of publisher (Germany) sort by
  • Edition number (May 2020) or (05/2020)
  • Publication frequency (monthly) sort by
  • Price and currency (5,00 €) maybe in seperated fields
  • Number of pages including front and back but without any loose documents (148) In this case, it is an extra booklet on watches for motorists with 36 pages
  • Only the title page, cover page on the back is almost always advertising
  • Dimensions (width / height) in cm (23/30) without decimal places
  • Orientation (vertical)
  • The ISSN-Code (ISSN 0177-8862) This number can also be assigned several times.
  • Print run (unknown)
  • Genre (Oldtimer) sort by

Maybe even more:

  • Weight of the magazine without any loose documents in gram (480)

I believe the information listed by mitanisch is appropriate

In Albania there were published many magazines, which were dedicated to different sectors. A number of them were dedicated to youngsters, containing diverse thematic. One of these magazines is "Horizonti" (The Horizon); a monthly scientific and educational magazine, which started to be published in December 1979 (Issue #1), while the last issue as far as I know is December 1990 (perhaps issue #133). The magazine started always with one or two articles referring to propaganda and achievements of the state at that time, followed by articles on different topics and areas. I personally have all the magazines from December 1979 to December 1987. One monthly issue has 28 pages (including front cover and back side). It has many photographs and drawings. Articles are not more than two pages, rarely three pages.

Hope this category gets through.

Thnx

I will try a few this weekend. I have many hobbies and interests, so I won't be able to fully dedicate each and everyday towards this. It will depend on how easy / fast it goes to scan / upload. I would start with Motorensport / Sportmoteur, which is a magazine from Belgium. Sportmoteur was first and was in French, then a few years there was also a version for the Dutch speaking part of my country. I just made a scan of each as an example. First it was weekly, later on it was I think monthly.

If you include newspapers it could be a good category also from historic and encyclopedic point of view. I can also help with adding some Czech and German newspapers and magazines.

Newspapers don't belong here. If there is enough interest, there should be a separate category for this.
