- Description:
- Manuel Ponce de León (Bogotá, January 1, 1829-January 19, 18991) was a Colombian military, cartographer and civil engineer, as well as professor of calculus, mechanics and construction at the School of Engineering of the National University of Colombia. With the death of the Geographer AgustÃn Codazzi in 1859 the work of the Chorographic Commission was completely stopped, so, to prevent the work from being lost, Manuel MarÃa Paz and Manuel Ponce de León were hired to complete and publish the work carried out by General Codazzi resulting in 1865, in the "Atlas of the United States of Colombia" and the "geographic map of the United States of Colombia".
