In the Netherlands after "tulipmania" is it time for "cryptostampmania"?

Collecting Stamps or generally interested in philately? You may write about everything here but better stick to subjects that relate to stamps and appeal to collectors. Mind you we have a separate category and forum for philatelic products.

In the Netherlands after "tulipmania" is it time for "cryptostampmania"?

Postby Bobby54 »

I received this email from PostNL about a new crypto stamp: price €500, print run of 299 stamps.

PostNL had already issued a similar cryptostamp at the same selling price (Stamp #1583085). But in that case there is also a "normal" version and the print run was higher. A "normal" version of this new stamp doesn't appear to be planned. If this were the case, having a complete collection of the Netherlands becomes almost impossible.

Don't you also think that creating new rarities is just speculation?

There is another one sold by PostNL at a more reasonable price (€11.80): Hermes

It's a joint issue of cryptostamps together with Austria (Zeus and Hera), Luxembourg (Artemis), Belgium (Athene) and Portugal (Poseidon).

A five-country collaboration

Portugal is joining our international crypto stamp family! Together with Austria, Luxembourg, Belgium and new member Portugal, we’re launching a special international edition. Five countries, one shared mission: to conquer the world with crypto stamps!

I'd expect crypto stamps to be a bubble, just like NFTs and meme coins. Another current trend is those 24 carat gold stamps sold at several hundred times their face value. 😑

Sounds like they need a taste of "agency issue" markings.

Maybe we need a new emission type, something like "Fads, Fancies & Short-lived Trends"? ;-)

Australia Post will soon be offering stuff from their annual "Impressions" catalog, which are full of limited-edition merchandise.

Most of those items could be listed under Australia - Personalized Stamps since they use the templates created by Australia Post for their MyStamp program established a few years ago.
