Swapping Tips : Collectors Help and Support

Help › Swapping Tips

Although most swaps are good for both sides, there are some cheaters out there. Although we try to prevent scams, we take no responsibility if you have been scammed. The following tips may help you avoid some common scams:

  • If a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is. Be sure you have reached a final agreement that includes the full and exact list of items to be exchanged and their condition.
  • A collector with a few or no positive ratings should always send items first. If you're a new member, your best bet is to swap with members who have many positive ratings.
  • After sending a package to a collector, you may give a neutral rating and change it to positive once you receive your package. This will help in preventing mass-cheats. See: Ratings
  • Always use registered packages and keep the receipt. If you didn't register the package, it's your responsibility.
  • Protect well any package you send so that it will not be tampered with. Some collectors suggest using extra paper, plastic or adhesive tape. Use your best judgement.
  • Do not accept a damaged, torn or opened package at your post office as its possible its content has been tampered with. Not accepting a package means it would be returned to the sender who could then file a complaint and send you another package.
  • Be very suspicious if the collector's real name or other details are different on Colnect and on the mailing address.
  • Alert us about any suspicious offer you receive. This will help keeping other members protected.
  • Communicate only on Colnect when making deals. This may provide us with further details in the event of a dispute.
  • Please note that Premium Membership is NOT an indication of the trustworthiness of a collector.

Valuable Collection?

Having a valuable collection may post additional risk. We recommend the following:

  • Consider purchasing a safe for your home or renting a safe deposit box at a local bank.
  • Consider insuring your collection with a reputable insurance company.
  • Using private Custom Personal Lists could be an alternative to exposing all your collection. While it is possible to hide your entire collection altogether, mind other members won't be able to use Best Matches and Auto-Matching to easily find and swap with you.
  • Providing the address of your work place or a post office box instead of your home address may increase your privacy.
