EDITORS: Comments counter and "Comments I Can Process"

Postby tcawe »

Dear editors of Colnect,

We're happy to announce a set of new features to ensure you manage to stay on top of comments submitted by members of Colnect.

First, there's the "Comments I Can Process" page that will quickly show you a list of items with pending comments that you can process. Yes, instead of figuring out which of the items with pending comments are items you have permissions for, now they all appear in a single list which would include items across ALL categories for which you have access. Please mind that comments you've made as an editor are never shown on this list.

Second, following this great suggestion discussed on the forum, we're now adding a comments counter on top of the edit menu. So if you see a page with the editing menu, you may notice a number next to it. This indicates the number of comments that YOU can process right now. You can click it or the "Comments I Can Process" menu option and they'll both lead you to the same page described above.

Third, if you're trying to process a comment and another editor has processed it already, you will see a message "Comment processed by ____". You can then decide if you'd like to process other items or contact the other editor to discuss a division of the pending comments.

Fourth, when watching a single item page that has pending comments, these will appear ON TOP of the page, above the item title. This way the comments will stand out quickly without having to scroll down first.

Please mind the feature has not been fully tested and your feedback is, as always, welcome :)

Happy editing with our first cool feature of 2015 :)

Second: very good feature!

Fourth: Good Idea!

In the stamp category Is it possible to list the country, too? The names say not much.

On pages where there's no edit menu (like here on forum) you still download the comments number and have it ready in the JS variable - maybe you could introduce some simple edit button on those non-editable pages? It could contain the comments number and could simply lead to "Comment I can process" page.

Done :)

The edit menu will soon appear on all pages so you'll see the counter always. The reason it didn't exist on all pages before was technical and as it has been optimized, the reason is now gone as we've optimized it (it's built by JS rather than given as HTML in every page).

Hi,

I've got two suggestions and one question.

Suggestions:

1) Could it be possible to add the total of pending comments as it shown in the picture?

Comments.jpg

2) It will be very useful if you can add a new column with the pending days of every comment, and if it is an old one, show days in red.

Question:

Don't know if you already did it?

I think that we need country - or in case the category doesn't support it, the start point of the navigation - as a first column.

Thanks,

Hernán.-

1) Done

2) While I thought about it, I decided against it. Comments should NOT linger. The oldest comment is presented first and if you start recognizing it, it means it should have been processed already ;)

3) Producer was already added to the item name, as requested before. However, using a separate column does make sense and it's now added.

Just one thought: you could remember the total number of comments shown on page when loaded, and after each counter refresh compare it to current value, if changed, location.reload();

This way if you for example process 10 comments which you have open in tabs, when you go back to the pending_comments page, it would be just as new.

I wouldn't want to do it as automatic page refresh isn't an expected behavior and you could lose some info. Say you wanted to look at some of the items later but meanwhile another editor processed these comments and they disappear from the list. Now u don't have the link in front of you. When you want a refresh, F5 is the way to go. Some plugins allow setting auto-refresh intervals for pages on your browser.

Hi Amir,

By viewing the new table, I've got "another" useful idea 8)

Can you link the producer to the "category-producer" pending comments page?

Country Link.jpg

For example, for Spain, a link to Spain

Many thanks,

Hernán.-

Please explain how it would be more useful than the current list. To me it seems it makes more sense to open the single item pages from this list rather than direct you to another list that doesn't have the comments in it.

Hi, the problem with that list was that the comments were processed.

I made a test comments for you to figure out.

03-01-2015 11-44-29 a-m-.jpg

so when I click on the the producer I can go directly to this list:

https://colnect.com/en/coins/list/count ... t/comments

Thanks,

Hernán.-

Sorry if I wasn't clear. I understood your request very clearly but I still don't see the real life use case for it. Why would you want to see that list now that "Comments I Can Process" is a much better and more informative list? You cannot process comments from the old-filter list so it makes little sense to me.

I see this too, I think. When you try to order by name or producer it just rearranges the list differently but not alphabetically.
