Colnect's New Clothes - Responsive Design

We are happy to announce the availability of our new responsive design for Colnect. From the smallest mobile display to the biggest HD display, Colnect will try to look at its best for you

We welcome you to try the new design and provide us with feedback before we make the change permanent. We have rewritten much of the code related to the site's design and we'll be making many more updates in the coming week to finish and polish what's missing.

If the new design is not working well for you, please report the problems you experience here, along with a screen shot, the URL you visit and the browser you use, and we'll do our best to respond quickly.

Please note we now have a few more threads for pages we wish to changes. You're welcome to see the suggestions and participate in the polls there. Your feedback (hopefully with screen shots to clarify what you mean) would be helpful in making Colnect comfortable for all collectors across all devices.

* Our forum system doesn't support responsive design yet. We plan to upgrade it soon enough though. This means that when you view the forums on your mobile, you'll likely have to zoom in.

What on earth do you mean with "responsive" design ?

When you wrote the heading " Colnect's New Cloths" did you perhaps leave out an "e" because cloths are pieces of material or in the sense of a dish cloth.

"Responsive" is also used in a very peculiar way here and I cannot get my head around what you are trying to communicate to us.

An explanation would be very welcome and I have translated cloths into Afrikaans for "Jacket".

Is that the idea?

Christiaan - thank you for pointing this out. The missing "e" is simply a mistake, one that I now corrected. The meaning is "new clothing", the new design of the website. "Responsive" design means a degisn that is able to properly adapt to the device and form in which it is viewed. Previously, the appearance of Colnect was the same on all sizes of screens, including wide screens, tablet and mobile devices. This made Colnect somewhat uncomfortable to use on certain devices, as information and navigation weren't properly and efficiently displayed. Now the design has been adjusted to different possible screens and viewing types. This means adjustment of length of lists, amount of columns, location of menus, size of images, accessibility of certain information and many more changes that may be hard to spot when all works well but painfully easy to sport when they are absent.

You can try to play with the size of your browser window now to understand a little better what this is about.

On the monitors in width from 1280pх looks bad division into 2 columns in lists(https://colnect.com/ru/stamps/list/coun ... /year/2009), need to do more columns. At the "div" we must set the width and depending on the width of the screen and put margins for output columns 2-6.

You should also strictly define the width in the left column (https://colnect.com/ru/stamps/catalog), as well as the right to conclude from 2 to 6 colones, depending on the width of the screen.

In both pages, a lot of emptiness of this complicated perception of the material.

An alternative is the reduction of of emptiness increase in pictures, but it is of course very difficult because they have all of the biggest pinch.

Width (600x800) text in the list moves out.

When (800x600) the picture is very far to the right.

Looked at the browsers FF 33.1.1, Chrome 39.0.2171.71 m

у меня большой монитор , старый дизайн был с двумя большими белыми полями по бокам, теперь на всю ширину и соответственно помещается больше информации без прокрутки .

We've noticed this problem only with Opera Mini, as well as other things that browser doesn't support. Let us know if you're using that browser or another.

Thank you for your feedback. Item list pages: please note lists may look very different to different people across different categories and permissions they may have. We could consider trying to put the pictures under the item's title and thus make columns narrower and then change to 4 columns with HD and 3 columns when smaller. However, in the past, when we've had 1000px width in mind, we thought 2 columns are more comfortable than 3 to most people as the eye doesn't have to bouce much. Perhaps we'll make it optional.

Category main pages: still a work in progress, they do look bad now.
