Face Values Lists - Easily find your item by its face value

Postby tcawe »

We're happy to announce that following a lot of discussions and work, the face values lists are now public and can be seen by clicking "Face Values" under any of the categories that have face values:

Stamp face values

Phonecards face values

Transportation ticket face values

Gift card face values

Banknoteface values

Coin face values

Functional card face values

Token face values

Lottery ticket face values

So, if you have a stamp and can read its value and perhaps another detail, you're more likely to quickly locate it on Colnect. Also, if you want to know how many coins with a face value of 5 you have, simply add the "Face Values" filter.

Here are some things to note about these lists:

* Sorting isn't as simple as you may initially think due to the variance of face values. So now it's first all standard numbers sorted by smaller first (such as 2.50), then every face value string from which some digits can be extracted (such as 3+5) sorted by the first number extracted and then those which have no digits in them (such as M) sorted alphabetically.

* Your best way to search is to use the "Quick filter" box and simply start typing the value you're looking for. The lists, that on some categories are huge, would then be much easier to manage.

* You can also add "Face Value" using the new "Add Filter" option whenever you navigate the lists.

As always, your comments are most welcome. If there's anything that's counter intuitive for you with these lists, please try to explain and we'll try to make it better.

Some notes about the quick filter as it's supposed to be as helpful as possible: for anything EXCEPT for face values, the quick filter searches if what you type is found in one of the options. For face values it adds special cases:

A/ If you input only digits, it'll either show values who have this complete number or start with that number. So when typing 4 you will see, for example:

  • 4
    40
    400
    4,000
    1/4
    4.25

B/ If you input 1/2 or .25 or any of the likes, you'll be shown all fractional representations known. So searching for either

  • .5
    0.5
    .50
    0.50
    1/2
    ½

will show anything containing ANY of them. This will NOT work when you search for more complex things such as 37.50

Hope this will help you find exactly what you're looking for.

With the help of coordinators and editors, I hope to see the lists become smaller as all kind of uncommon "face values" are removed from them.
