Changes to filter lists views

Postby tcawe »

Updated 2013-07-03

Exciting improvements to all our filter list pages:

* "Add filter" options now allow you to navigate in any way you want. You can now quickly find answers to complex question such as "What is 2011 Bullion Coinage made from?" or see Souvenir sheets from 2001 featuring birds. There are countless options to use our new filters and you're welcome to explore.

* "Quick name filter" every filter list now has a small name filter box inside the navigation box. Use it to quickly see only options that interest you. The list is updated as you type.

More minor improvements:

* You can now click anywhere inside the box of your chosen option and not only where the text is. When it's possible to click the counter, it'll appear in blue as well.

* All filter lists will automatically jump forward when there's only one option to choose so you don't spend time with another click. This feature existed on some lists but not all.

Filter list pages, such as Stamp countries, Coin years or German Phonecard Companies, are now a bit different even though they look the same.

Formerly, you had to click the text to choose the filter.

Now, you can click anywhere in the box so selection would be easier.

Clicking the number inside () will still take you directly to the item list page, as before.

Happy to announce another nice change: when you start filling in the "Name" filter all the items matching the filter will be in bold and other items will become faded. See attached screen shot. This will NOT work for item name (such as coin name) as the entire database has to be checked to find items that match your search.

You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Even better, with modern browser (read: not IE8 or lower) only the relevant filters will be shown once you start typing. The others will be hidden. The statistics will also be automatically updated. Check it out :!: :!: :!:

Very nice with all the new features making life as a collector much easier :-)

One question only. I would have liked to answer the poll : Yes, more comfortable, but how do I do that? None of the lines are active.

Some work fine in stamps section (at least countries) but some make all the alternatives bold until comes out the one you search - it is the first one not to be bold. This is how it works in stamps category at least with tags, colours and catalogs. It also seems that some filters work fine in english but not in finnish (maybe also with other languages?).

Strange, it's like that for me too. I tried logging out and in and it's the same.

This quick filter has now moved to the navigation box, a bit lower.

For those who can't get it to work: which browser are you using? I've tested these changes with Chrome, FireFox and Internet Explorer. Simply go to the "Name" box in the navigation box (right after the "Showing XXX Stamps, XXX Countries" for example) and type some text.

I've now changed permissions for this forum so anyone can vote in the poll. Sorry for the trouble.

The country name feature is amazing. :D I usually have to use Ctrl + F and type what country I want to find. But now with this feature, searching for a specific country is much easier. Thanks :D

This is helpful. Really faster. Scrolling usually was more convenient but on long lists the new option has advantages in time and to find words in the middle or end of field content.

It's ok to have the current filter field a bit lower. Could you please put the full name (in this case "Country name") back? "Name" is ambigious and often connected to the item name. Also it's a bit confusing that filters on different pages are called "Name" but the inputs are different.

Thanks for the feedback. The next addition would have to list continents so that a simple click would show you only countries of the relevant continent.

I use firefox and sometimes explorer. Same result for me every time. Some filters work some give only bold results until the first right alternative is reached. Could it be problem with language? I use finnish. Yes, I just tried it out: english works, finnish only sometimes.

There seems to be a limit (1000?) for filtered results? It means that if I start my (stamp)filtering from the countries, most of them cannot be filtered in this new way - most of countries have more than 1000 items(stamps). This means that you first must consider if there is one option in your item that has less than 1000 other items in the category.

Am I right or is there some other reason that makes the filter not to work?

This seems to be the way it works for me.
