Discussion: Marketplace platform on Colnect?

Postby Dana-Levitas »

What do you think of the idea of adding a marketplace platform to Colnect? In such a marketplace there will be the option for members to buy and sell items easily and online on Colnect.

This issue has come up many times from many different people, mentioning that such a place will help them a lot or that they will be interested in such a place.

What do you think? Would you be interested in something like that? How would like it to look?

I think, that a really service could be if only participe the collectors, and the condition could be : the price lower than a others e-markets.

As you said this issue has been brought up many times before and speaking for myself I think it has a lot of merrit, I would like to see it happen merely because I have tried to sell items that have ended up getting lost in the shuffle, haveing a forum dedicated to the selling of items would greatly help aleviate that problem and reduce the unessary taking up of space in the general discussions area.

How ever should this idea ever get implimented I would suggest a couple of MODERATORS to monitor the ebb and flo of sales (As some sales may get heated) to which there decissions would of course be binding.

I of course would be willing to offer my services in this regard should this idea ever get off the ground.

Another Idea (which would greatly appeal to me) would be a COLNECT auction where COLNECT would get some percentage of the final sale. Anything has got to be better than E Bay..

And of course no one has mentioned a quizz or contest area on COLNECT, but I digress..

Regards

NIGEL

i think a market place is superb idea, it will stop people sending unsolicited pm's offering coins for sale. as well as nigel i will be only too willing to help moderate the section.

A Market Place will be great!!!!

I support the idea and especially I support Nigel and John as Moderators.

The only doubt I have is, if that we are going to use a different rating system for this. I believe that the actual is very good for swaps, but I am not very sure if it is the best for sales. In this point I suggest one rating for each operation that can’t be change from Positive to Negative and so on.

Thanks,

Hernán.-

Perhaps we should have say 100 quality posts to qualify and be in good standing for at least 3 months, All those in favour raise your hands, we have one fore and half against, the raised hands have it,..

i agree with nigel again, to hopefully guard against any possibility of any scams, a set number of posts combined with say 10 positive ratings on swaps, would be a good qualifying criteria to advertise anything for sale

For the moment, Premium members have in catalogs possibility to mark any item as item that they have for sell. Also, in Phonecards Forum we have forum : Selling/Buying Collectible Phonecards, which is easily addable to all other Category Forums. So, this site already allows members to sell and buy so it can already be considered as a market place.

By adding a marketplace platform I suppose you think on adding a platform for auction site like eBay? I must say that this idea has its good and bad things.

Good thing: All items I can't offer for swap as they aren't in catalogs I could offer them for sail as auction right here instead on eBay or any other local auction site.

Bad thing: Colnect would probably with time transform to only a one more auction site. It Will also require much space.

All together, when I came on Colnect the main thing I was happy with is exactly that this is a site that connects collectors and help them make new contact, new friends, manage their collections and do swaps. This was and still is the world unique place where collectors can hide from auctions and simply do swaps. I must say that I'd be very sorry to see that change.

However, I understand that this big site requires many money for maintenance and that this is probably the thing that is necessary. Maybe it would be better idea of constructing the separate sister-site for auctions e.g. Colnect Store.

Of course this is just my opinion.

Thank you all very much for your response.

neweden and moneyer12, thank you for your offer of help. Since this for now just an idea, we don't know how the structure will be, but if we will decide on some sort of Moderator position with certain responsibilities, we will be happy to have your help on that.

hbofill12 - the rating system should be thought out, of course, for a new platform. May be, as suggested here, some minimum entrance barrier of swapping ratings in order to be able to sell. In any case I think that the management of sales will have to have more clear, rigid and enforced rules on Colnect than in swapping, so the assurance of a fair trade will not rely heavily on the ratings system alone.

kljaja - I understand your concern for the character of the site. This idea for a market place comes to improve the conditions for collectors on Colnect, and make the process of selling and buying, which we gather is quite common as it is, more comfortable. The sense of community and the service of it's needs, I think, is the best and most important thing that Colnect built over the span of it's existence, so it will not be disregarded.

The reason that I put this idea on the forum for discussion is in order to see how we can make this in a way that serves the collectors community. I believe we can do it in such a manner.

Hello neweden,

Do not worry, in any case the matter of setting up a Colnect marketplace will have a high place on the Colnect agenda. The progress on it now depends also on a few external circumstances, and will move forward as possible, but this will take some time. The manner in which it will be created and the character it will take on will be discussed here beforehand in any case.

Let me know if you have any thoughts on this, here on this thread.
