New: Related Items on Colnect

Dear collectors,

Following the Philatelic Products category, we would like to present the new feature which will make finding Stamps stamped on Philatelic Products easier, but can be useful in other categories as well: the Related Items.

From now on, editors on Colnect can associate any item with any other item on Colnect. If there's a coin printed on a stamp, postcard or phone card, it can be related using this feature.

Here's an example of an FDC with links to the three stamps appearing on it.

Editors are welcome to add such relations right away Other members who wish to help can add a comment in one item with a link to the related item and editors will review it.

I welcome this very useful feature

Besides giving informative or cataloging help, it will finally enable the identification of the Bottle Caps when related to their associate Drink Labels.

Until now such identification is quite impossible as the size and the use of the Bottle Caps does not permit the supply of information about Country-Producer-Beverage-Year, which are published on the associate Drink Label.

Me as a Colnector of both, Drink Labels and Bottle Caps I will be very pleased to use this feature to finally make the identification of my Bottle Caps possible in a such easy way

Previously, some editors marked coins that related to each other only by design as variants, but had completely different catalog codes and denominations. Perhaps, they can use the new field instead and stop misusing the variant field.

I think it's a good idea but it needs fulfilling such condition: collectors must have an option to search collectible items either with their "relatives" or separately.

Not sure what you mean, please be more specific.

In Philatelic Products, in FDCs, this feature is very useful to connect them to the relevant stamps.

At the same time sometimes it proves to be very heavy.

There are FDC with complete series, also of 8, 9 stamps. We end up with a long list of links.

In these cases, it would be nice to have the option to connect to the series, not to individual stamps.

On the opposite side, automatically, it would be added, for each stamp, the connection to the FDC.

Sorry for the belated response. The feature is made to connect items. If you wish to connect a series (or any other link) you may edit the description field of the item and add that specific link there. In general the description field is a very flexible one allowing the addition of any information that doesn't fit in our standard fields.
