Updated Currencies List

Postby tcawe »

Today our currencies list has grown tremendously from 635 currencies to 1249. Our new list should include ALL known currencies and their denominations. Also, all currency names appear with their respective country name, as they do on Wikipedia's currencies list.

So, for example, you can now find the following currencies and denominations:

United States dollar

United States cent

United States dime

What still needs to be done?

The current list is now locked, which means that contributors and coordinators will NOT be able to add or modify currencies on it directly. However, previously it was not locked and thus we have some problematic entries such as "pound" and "pounds" which may or may not relate to the same currency or even to different currencies which have the name "pound" such as the British pound or the Prince Edward Island pound.

So here is what you can do to help:

* When you see items on Colnect which are assigned to an ambiguous currency such as "pound", please edit them and change them to the relevant currency. You can use our "Currencies list" available under each category.

* If you notice duplicate entries on our currencies list, please fill out a duplicates report and send it to iflvico.

* If you're certain we're missing a currency (do double check) or have a type somewhere, please see instructions on adding/editing currencies.

Feel free to reply here if you have any questions, suggestions and/or complaints :)

You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

This database contains a lot of redundant currencies.

For example,

1. Form of name

Ukrainian karbovanets [870]

Ukrainian karbovantsiv [219]

Karbovantsiv is Plural Genitive of Karbovanets... I'm not sure that it has sense to have all forms of this word... in opposite case it's necessary to add missing forms too. The same problem in

Rubel [339]

Rublei [557]

Rubli [297]

Chervonets [652]

Chervontsev [463]

shilling [224]

Shilling / Pence [342]

Shillings [341]

2. Duplicates. What's difference?

Ukrainian kopiyka [220]

Ukrainian kopiyka [871]

Russian ruble р. р. [68]

Russian ruble руб. руб. [180]

Israeli new shekel ₪ [1211]

Israeli new sheqel ₪ [3]

Czechoslovak koruna Kčs [880]

Czechoslovakian koruna [295]

Czechoslovakian koruna Kčs [353]

3. Name of state.

Marek [308]

Mark [491]

Marka [531] but German mark DM [211]

either

Agorot [315] but Israeli agora [311]

Israeli new shekel ₪ [1211]

Israeli new sheqel ₪ [3]

I think it should be ranged always in Singular Nominative, on the first place name of state.

For the cases where it's obvious duplicates, please submit a duplicates report to me and I'll process it.

To edit names see the other post I've linked to.

I need exact instructions to execute. Thanks.

PLEASE NOTE that perhaps, for example, some of the rubel examples you've given shouldn't be merged but rather renamed to the appropriate currency name including the country. Maybe others are already mixed. You should definitely these currencies list first:

https://colnect.com/en/coins/currencies

https://colnect.com/en/stamps/currencies

I have now added ISO codes where they have been added to the attached list of the first post.

I await your duplicates report.

Thanks

Hi!

How are you?

Would you like to add a new currency to the banknotes NIF:

INSERT INTO `colnect`.`currency` (`id` ,`name` ,`symbol` ,`iso`)VALUES (NULL , 'Réunion centimes', 'SYMBOL', 'ISO');

The franc was the currency of Réunion until 2002. Before 1973, Réunion had its own franc, distinct from that of France. After 1973, the French franc circulated. Réunion now uses the euro. The Réunion franc was subdivided into 100 centimes.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R%C3%A9union_franc

Thx a lot.

As it seems there is no symbol or ISO code, the line should be:

INSERT INTO `colnect`.`currency` (`id` ,`name` ,`symbol` ,`iso`)VALUES (NULL , 'Réunion centimes', '', '');

It has now been added with ID 1285

Thanks

Hi.

It is my opinion that the United States dime is not a currency. It is however 10 United States cents or 0.10

United States Dollars. In fact you could get rid off the cents & just use the United States Dollars in whole & fractions.

Regards.

Peter.

Hi Peter,

The currency is only United States dollar BUT as some collectibles mention their values in cents or dimes, we have them listed separately. A stamp which shows 10c value on it, doesn't show $0.10 value although it's exactly the same value. When a coin is a 1c coin, it is not a $0.01 coin although these are financially equivalent.

I hope this clarifies the situation a bit.

Thanks
