Описание:: The shield consists of a field where a typical landscape of the plain is represented, with a setting sun and a river that flows to the horizont. It symbolizes the beauty of the plain land. Above of it, a monogram composed by the letters "DM" означает "Department of Meta", and a head of cattle representing the main economic activity of the region. At the bottom, a broken black chain, symbolizing the fight of the local people in the liberating struggle. Two centaurs are located on both sides of the shield, the right one carries a flagpole with the flag of the Department and the other a flagpole with a national flag. These mythological beings represent the courageous lancers who participated in the battles of the War of independence of Colombia.
