- Mara, of firm and authoritarian character, assumed all the autocratic figure of who governs assisted by supernatural powers. A leader of a vast western region that stretched from the shores of the lake known as Maracaibo and the Magdalena River, on the border with what is now Cartagena. The fierce Motilon Indians knew the incursions of this cacique who managed to subdue many tribes of the region, with which he faced the spanish invader. He died fighting a Spanish captain, who captures him badly wounded and lets him plunge into his agony. - His reign extended through the mountains, bordering The Rows of Mariches and the Tuy Valleys, including part of the Caracas Valley. Among his successes is that of Villa del Collado, as well as that of Cayapa, where he defeats the legendary and cruel Rodríguez Carpio. In 1568 Tiuna gathered almost four thousand men, together with the caciques Guaicamacuto and Aricabuto, to give a decisive fight in Maracapana. To destroy the invader, there were the caciques Naiguatá, Uripatá, Anarigua, Mamacuri, Querequemare, Prepocunate, Araguaire, Guarauguta, with seven thousand warriors; Aricabuto and Aramaipuro represented the Mariche nation in command of three thousand archers. The great cacique Guaicaipuro did not arrive at the site because of bad weather. Some caciques withdrew, but others, motivated to fight by Tiuna decided to fight, Losada confronted them. The battle was disastrous, the caciques decided to retreat.
