Kruunapuoli: Shows the painting The Intervention of the Sabine Women, painted by Jacques-Louis David in 1799. The painting is based on the legendary episode of the Sabine women, a tale that dates back to the early days of Rome. After founding Rome, Romulus faced a shortage of women and orchestrated their abduction from the neighboring Sabines during a festival. Though taken by force, the women eventually became wives and mothers within Roman society. When the Sabine men returned to reclaim them, the women bravely intervened on the battlefield, placing themselves between their husbands and fathers to stop the bloodshed.
