- Description:
- Tommaso Aloisio Juvara, considered the most skillful engraver of that time, received the order to engrave in taille-douce the die for the Sicilian Postage Stamps. Aloisio was furnished with a photo of the king and a sheet showing the facsimiles of the postage stamps in various colors. In May 1858 Aloisio delivered to the Minister for Sicilian Affairs proofs of each value. The effigy is engraved with the greatest skill and show marvellous finish. It was also prepared a cancellation mark (horsehoe) that surrounded the effigy of the king, without touching it.
