Description:
Sealand is a fort in the North Sea outside British waters. The PTS Stamp Trade Standing Committee has investigated the claim for validity of issues inscribed "Sealand" which were supported by covers which passed through Belgian postal channels.
After enquires had been made by the Director General of the Belgian Postal Administration, a letter was received above his signature to the effect that on this one occasion items of no apparent special importance, franked with what appeared to be normal postage stamps and cancelled "Sealand", arrived at the post office Brussels X at a time when it was under heavy pressure. By mistake these items were given the arrival backstamp of Brussels Airport and passed on into the mails, having been accepted in good faith. Furthermore, it is stated that no postal relations exist between Belgium and Sealand, and any further mail presented bearing only Sealand adhesives would be refused.
In the light of this and other information the Committee recommended the description of Sealand labels to be called "non-postal labels".
In other words, they are bogus labels. To this day any labels produced in the name of Sealand are considered bogus labels. A new set was produced in 2010 which stand under this same status.
