Description:
This stamp is dedicated to another significant personality in our country´s history - the reformer, clergyman, preacher and vice-chancellor of Charles University Jan Hus (c. 1371 - 6.7.1415; also known as John Huss). He was the leader of the Czech reform movement striving to reform the Christian church, which it criticised for immorality and avarice. In 1412 he lost the support of the king over his opposition to the sale of indulgences, left Prague and went to live in the country, where he continued preaching, under the protection of supporters among the aristocracy.
