- Description:
- Gairsay is a small island in Orkney, Scotland. In recent years the island was owned by one family, named McGill, who purchased the island in 1968 and now farm it and (it is stated) who issue their own postage stamps. It is stated that Gairsay is one of the few Scottish islands permitted to do this due to the lack of a Royal Mail service. As for them actually using them, there is no evidence of proper usage of any of them. All of them were produced for or by Clive Feigenbaum with the possibility that he was given permission by the McGill family to do so. At present, all of the "cancelled" versions of these labels are CTO cancels that are bogus.
