Dr. Carlos Arvelo y Guevara (June 1, 1784,Güigüe, Carabobo state - October 17, 1862, Maiquetía). He reached his medical degree in 1810. Bolívar appointed him Surgeon Major in 1813, having previously been Director of the Military Hospital of Caracas. He participated in the battles of Vigirima, La Victoria and San Mateo. Once independence has been achieved, he was professor at the University and accompanies Dr. Vargas in the creation of the Medical Faculty. He was later Rector of the University and Senator.
