Apollo 11 was a NASA mission that successfully landed two astronauts, Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin, on the Moon on July 20, 1969. This was the first time humans had ever set foot on another celestial body. The mission was launched on July 16, 1969, and returned to Earth on July 24, 1969. The landing site was the Sea of Tranquility on the Moon's surface. Armstrong famously uttered the phrase "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind" as he stepped onto the lunar surface.
