The historic building was once the presidential residence and has been the site of various political, social and academic events. In 1908 and until 1954 it becomes for the first time the seat of the Chancellery. Since 1979, it has been the definitive home to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

José Celestino Mutis (6 April 1732 – 11 September 1808) was a Spanish priest, botanist and mathematician. He was a significant figure in the Spanish American Enlightenment, whom Alexander von Humboldt met with on his expedition to Spanish America.
José Jerónimo Triana Silva (May 22, 1828 in Bogotá – October 31, 1890 in Paris) was a Colombian botanist, explorer, and physician who cataloged over 60,000 specimens representing 8,000 species.In 1851, he joined the Chorographic Commission as head of botany, which he served as until 1857. The IX Pan-American Conference of 1948 was held in Bogotá. This becomes the most important pan-American Conference since the OAS is created by means of the Charter of the Organization of American States to replace the Pan-American Union. The American Treaty on Peaceful Solutions is also approved as well as the American Declaration of rights and duties of man. To remember, that during this conference the events of the "Bogotazo " took place, due to the assassination of the leader of the Colombian Liberal party, Jorge Eliécer Gaitán. For this reason the Conference had to be moved further north of Bogotá and took place in the modern gymnasium. - Buy Now:
