- Description:
- Bardsey Island, known as the legendary "Island of 20,000 Saints", is located 1.9 miles (3.1 km) off the Llŷn Peninsula in the Welsh county of Gwynedd. In 1979 the British Post authorized the Bardsey Island Trust to have carriage labels produced to be used as payment of transporting mail from the island to the mainland and to help with financial support for the trust to purchase the island. The production of the carriage labels was contracted to the Format International Security Printers Ltd. who maintained the contract through 1982. All labels produced after 1982 were produced for or by Clive Feigenbaum and are considered bogus. Newer issues starting in 2015 being called fantasy issues are produced privately by Anglesey-based Martin Husband, rather than a resumption of ‘official’ Trust-issued Bardsey stamps.
