10 Cent Plate X.
60% of the stamps are printed on thick paper. 40% on thin porous paper. With thin porous paper, the watermark is almost always visible on the front side. Over ¼ of the stamps have been retouched in the "POST" box drawn from bottom to top. Color streaks and smudges are visible between the inner and outer frame lines. A "stripe on the cheek" occurs on this plate (see also NVPH NL 2k).
NVPH lists 2 stamps from this plate (NVPH NL 2p and 2q).
Variant NVPH NL 2q:
The color lines have disappeared on many stamps of the plate. Color smudges are still visible. Thin porous paper is always printed with plate X. - Buy Now:

- Description:
- This series of King William stamps has been produced by two printers over the years. NVPH makes the following distinction:
A. Rijksmunt Utrecht issue:
NVPH lists 1 stamp from this issue NVPH NL 5A.
B. Joh. Enschedé issue (from 1866 onward):
NVPH lists 1 stamp from this issue NVPH NL 5B.
The difference between the issue of Rijksmunt and Joh. Enschedé is usually difficult and sometimes impossible to determine with individual stamps. The stamps can best be judged by color in daylight. An aid is to view the colors in UV light. The following differences can then be seen:
10 cent Rijksmunt issue - yellow brown
10 cent John Enschedé issue - red brown
Print run includes:
Printed by Rijksmunt, Utrecht (9,100,000 1864-1866)
Printed by Joh. Enschedé (3,122,000 from 1866 onward). - Buy Now:

The paper varies from thick and hard to soft and thin to translucent. It is always white but is sometimes tinted by the printing process. Bluish paper is a coincidence. To whiten the paper, bluing was added during manufacture. The amount varied, sometimes too much bluing was added. No special prints were ever made on bluish paper.
All values occur in light and dark color shades.
