Description:: The shield has a French shape, the proportion of which is six-dimensional in length by five of latitude. It is divided into three parts, two located at the top and one that occupies the entire lower part. In the upper right part is half a body of a zebú, being considered Sincelejo at that time, the City of zebús of Colombia. The left part shows a horn of abundance, alluding to the richness of the Sucre fields.
Finally the lower field presents a coastal landscape as a symbol of the seas that bathe the coasts of the department.

Sucre is one of the 32 colombian departments and is located in the Caribbean Region of Colombia. The department occupies 10,670 km2 (4,120 sq mi) and it has a population of 802,733.Its capital city is Sincelejo.
Sucre was named in honor of the Independence hero Antonio José de Sucre who was quoted by the founders of this department in reference to Simón Bolívar's death as saying "They have killed my heart", expression said while cruising the territory of the present day Sucre Department.
