Apollo 11 was a space mission by NASA that successfully landed two astronauts, Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin, on the surface of the Moon on July 20, 1969. The third astronaut, Michael Collins, orbited above the Moon in the Command Module. Armstrong famously said the words "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind" as he stepped onto the lunar surface, making him the first human to ever set foot on the Moon. The mission was a major achievement in the Space Race between the United States and the Soviet Union, and it remains a significant moment in human history.
