- Description:
- This stamp is denominated ༡ = "1" in Tibetan numerals. In the 1950s Bhutan used Indian and Tibetan coinage, and it is unclear what currency is actually represented on the stamp:
- According to Mi and SG, it is 1 shiki and the stamp was sold for ¼ Indian rupee (YT only mentions the latter denomination)
- According to Sn (2021), it is 1 shiki and was sold for 1 Indian anna until 1 Apr 1957, and ¼ Indian rupee from then on.
- According to Warner (1956), it is 1 Indian anna
- According to Haverbeck (date?) and Trettin (1977), it is 1 Tibetan tangka (also spelt trangka, trangkha or thangkha)
The stamp was issued for fiscal purposes in 1953 (according to Trettin) or 1954 (according to Haverbeck). Mi and SG state that it was also authorised for postal use from 1955-01-01. YT lists it as a definitive stamp issued in 1954. Sn 2021 gives postal authorization date of 28 Sep 1955
After 1962-10-10, the stamp was primarily used for fiscal purposes once again, although according to Sn (2021) it remained valid for postal use until being demonetised in the mid to late 1980s. - Buy Now:
