- Description:
- Isö is a tiny island located in the Baltic Sea some 45 kilometers from the City of Norrköping on the East Coast of Sweden. In 1969 the tenant of the island requested permission to make carriage labels to pay for mail transport from the island to the mainland in the same way that British local stamps are used. Permission was granted as long as the labels did not look like stamps of Sweden in that words like "post" and "Sverige" were not inscribed on them. Several sets were made between 1969 and 1973 following these rules. In 1973 the tenant appointed an agent to handle all philatelic sales. In 1974 Clive Feigenbaum began having abusive productions of these labels made. In 1975 the tenant broke the agreement with the agent. This obviously being because the produced labels are inscribed "Sverige" which breaks the rules set forth by Sweden. This illegal inscription breaks the barrier between the stamps being local issues and/or Cinderella stamps making all labels issued after 1973 illegally produced without authorization from the Swedish post. No evidence of commercial usage of any of the labels seems to exist.
