The paper varies from thick and hard to soft and thin to translucent. It is always white but is sometimes tinted by the printing process. Bluish paper is a coincidence. To whiten the paper, bluing was added during manufacture. The amount varied, sometimes too much bluing was added. No special prints were ever made on bluish paper.
The 50 cents should have the original gold colour. this color was created by applying a layer of gold powder to the wet brown printing ink. Over the years, this gold layer has suffered more or less strongly, especially in used stamps, and has partly disappeared, so that the stamps have a bronze-brown, sometimes black blotchy color. - Buy Now:
