- Description:
- Printed in sheets of 16 stamps (16.000 sheets). The stamp shows, surrounded by a red circle, the United Nations international symbol for this programme : a red ribbon folded in the form of a loop that means the global fight against this pandemic and the support to those who suffer from it all over the world. On December 1, 2011, the World Day to Fight AIDS was held in Colombia, as in the rest of the world. On December 1, 1981 the first case of AIDS was diagnosed, so this day was chosen for its remembrance throughout the world. But the idea of dedicating a day of the year to the fight against AIDS in the world emerged in 1988 at the World Summit of Ministries of Health within the AIDS prevention programmes. Since then, the initiative has been followed by Governments, international organizations, and many other institutions across the globe. The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) is a United Nations programme, based in Geneva, Switzerland, aimed at coordinating the activities of the various UN specialized agencies in their fight against AIDS . From this year until 2015 the motto will be "Coming to zero".
