- Obverse: Papal coat of arms, motto at the bottom MISERANDO ATQUE ๐ ELIGENDO (Piety and choice), the pontiff with the year of his pontificate and the year of issue around it, in Latin, โณ FRANCISCVS PP. ANNO XIII MMXXV (Francisco Pontifex, year 13 2025).
Reverse: Pope John Paul II is depicted with open arms, a gesture that is an embrace, a blessing, a welcome. His robes flutter in the wind, as if his journey were never over. Behind him, the artist imagines a stylized crowd following and reflecting him, arms raised, hands outstretched, faces not drawn but recognizable in each of us. They are the young people who loved him, the people of the World Youth Days, but also the least fortunate who found voice and hope in him; on the upper left, the mintmark of Rome R, the nominal value at upper right 5, currency at lower right EURO. The issuing country around, โป at left CITTA' DEL and โคธ at right VATICANO (Vatican City), subject and dates of event โท at top in two lines GIOVANNI PAOLO II ๐ 2005-2025 (John Paul II), engraver โคป at bottom left M.B.INC (Marta Bonifacio), designer โคป at bottom right OROSSI (Orietta Rossi)
