Reverse: Depicts HMAS Sydney II, a 6,830 tons modified Leander class cruiser with an illustrious battle record; mintmark at right P (Perth). Theme HMAS / SYDNEY II and dates below 19 NOVEMBER 1941 ~ 16 MARCH 2008, which highlights the 67 years she lay undiscovered on the seabed.
Of the 7,500 pieces authorized, 5,000 were released in individual presentation packaging and the remaining 2,500 as a set consisting of the coin, a silver medallion depicting HSK Kormoran (a German raider disguised as a Dutch merchant which attacked Sydney II; the half-hour long engagement resulting in mutual destruction and both ships sinking), and a gold and silver-plated replica of the Kriegsmarineβs Auxiliary Cruiser Badge. 70 pieces were left unsold/returned. - Buy Now:
