Note: The "Honey Coin", which is how it is called, came out of a design contest organized by the Bank of Latvia, where the participants were asked to design a coin that was above all innovative. Artūrs Analts, industrial designer, presented his project under the name of "Honey" where the cells of a hive were represented in what simulates a portion of it, its contour corresponding to the geographical area of Latvia and the Gulf of Riga.
The collection coin has a facial of 5 euros and is minted in silver and gold plated. The shape of the coin is unique: several coins can be placed side by side as pieces of a puzzle to build an even larger honeycomb, in the same way that bees do in their hive. The coin has been minted by the UAB Lietuvos monetų kalykla (Lithuania), the 3,000 pieces minted went on sale yesterday May 22 at the price of € 53 in Latvia, and although no one will use it as such, it can be used as a means of payment.
Honey has a special role in Latvia, along with the diligent honey bees is very present in their popular songs; It is an important food, traditional medicine and cosmetic product. Citizens, as busy as bees in their daily lives, fill their country like bees fill a hive. Therefore, the "Honey Currency" is a symbol of diligence and sweetness. Bees also have an important role to play in maintaining biological diversity, and their presence is an indicator of the health of nature. - Buy Now:
