The Convent of Santo Domingo, belonging to the Dominican order, was founded in the city of Bogotá, on August 26, 1550. The original convent was one of the most valuable works of Colombian colonial architecture, but was demolished in 1938 by order of the Government of Eduardo Santos to make place for the communications building.
